The current Venus magazine (with Amy Sedaris on the cover) has a short article about several female comic creators, basically of the indie variety. I didn’t read it — I only scanned it — so I can’t tell you if it’s any good or not but it did look interesting.I don’t know if it’ll ever show up online, but it doesn’t seem likely.
I’ve also noticed a growing trend (well, OK, two, if that’s a trend) of regular hardcover sized comics — like Black Hole by Charles Burns and Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. Most bookstores are still putting these in the “comics” section, but it’s very sneaky because most people aren’t going to realize there’s drawings and word bubbles until they open it up. It’s also delightful because I think comics can be as valid as any other “respectable” fiction book. But you knew that.I’m sure there’s others out there that I don’t know about. And I’m also sure that there will be more of this sort of thing, too.
